Bathroom Breed?

I grew up in a country where washrooms were identified by either plural nouns or possessives.

Rooms were labelled Men or Women, Ladies or Gentlemen, Boys or Girls, Men's or Women's, and so on.

In Hong Kong, signs list them as Male Toilet and Female Toilet.

I've never gotten used to referring to the washroom as the toilet (that's just gross); the way it's done in this city makes the commodes sound as though they have a gender.
