Hong Kong recorded an all-time high on the Air Pollution Index when it peaked at 201, prompting the Environmental Protection Department to issue its first ever severe air pollution warning.

High ozone levels and calm air combined to form the choking smog. An hour later the reading dropped to 182, still too high for comfort.

I pity tourists who see Hong Kong on its worst days; they come away with the wrong impression.
