Poo Poo Pui Pui

The grueling competition to name the Yuen Long crocodile has ended.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department announced the beast's new name: Pui Pui.

"Pui Pui" is a transliteration of the Chinese characters in the crocodile's Chinese name, which indicates that it comes from the Shan Pui River.

The panel considered it suitable for a female crocodile.

"The name also means it ["Pui Pui"] is the apple of the public's eye," the spokesman explained.

The annoying names Gucci and Croc Croc Chan got tossed.

No mention was made of other names stemming from the Shan Pui River, such as Fetid, Malodorous and Putrid.
