Attack of the Village Dogs

During a hike to explore the ruins of the old village houses at Ma On Shan Tsuen, I passed through an area with a few small squatter huts.

Village dogs are territorial and will bark at anything that moves. Some are dangerous and would attack if given the chance.

These seven weren't. They were all show: loud and obnoxious, but no threat. Their owner had no control; the dogs ignored him. I stared a few down to see what they'd do and they backed off. When I turned my back, they closed in. When I turned or stepped toward them, they ran.

Cowards.

Rather than rile them up further, I walked back the way I'd come and went to the ruins by another route.

On my way back, three of the seven mutts heard my footsteps and ran down the path to harass me again. When I dropped to one knee to take photos of them, they shut up; they realised I wasn't afraid.

There's something to be said for being a bigger, meaner alpha male.
