View large image At the junction of Hollywood Road and Ladder Street in Sheung Wan, an elderly newspaper vendor sat lost in thought as he munched a cheap fast-food sandwich.

The late afternoon air grew chilly as he waited for a customer to buy the last of the day's broadsheets. Business wasn't brisk.

I hoped that wherever he lay his head to sleep, it was more comfortable than his place on the sidewalk.
