Tempting Zeus

Hong Kong has excellent weather forecasting.

It has an air pollution index, a UV index, and warning systems for landslips, torrential rainfall, cold, fire-risk, monsoons and tropical storms.

The latest addition to protect Hong Kong citizens is lightning monitoring. The system is being developed by the Hong Kong Observatory, the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau and the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau.

People with Internet access will be able to track lightning strikes within one minute of occurance and within 500 metres, allowing them to determine whether thunderstorms are headed their way. In the past 13 years, six people have been killed and 35 injured by lightning.

How long before someone figures out the warning system could be a novel aid to suicide?

Expect a future news item about a guy waving a nine iron in severe weather.
