Tangerine, Come To Me

View large image I visited Fa Hui, or the Flower Market in Mong Kok, to pick up this nice pair of tangerine trees for Lunar New Year.

I was pleased with the price; each tree was only $68, about US$8.70. Usually trees this tall are far more expensive: double the price, if not more.

Getting them home was another matter; they weren't lightweight, and I wasn't about to hoist them on a bus. The shop arranged a van to deliver both the trees and me back to the New Territories for a reasonable charge.

Traditional Chinese households should have blooming plants for the New Year, which symbolise new growth and rebirth. Tangerines with leaves intact assure relationships remains secure, while the tiny orange fruit signifies abundant happiness and good fortune.

We can use more of both.
