Hard-Hat Territory

Want to avoid getting hit on the head in Hong Kong?

Start by staying away from public housing estates. Despite that it's against the law to throw objects from heights, items including human feces often rain down.

In Kowloon City, a few hours after someone had tossed a wooden chair out of an opening over the building's exit (injuring an elderly woman who'd been hit with chunks of it when it exploded), three bags of trash, including a rolled-up carpet, came hurtling down.

I once witnessed a full garbage bag fly out the window of an upper-floor flat in Causeway Bay.

Given the population density in this city of towering high-rises, I'm surprised more people aren't maimed or killed by falling detritus.
