Who The Hell Is This Guy?
Crossing the border was a real comedy.
Twice.
I made both the mainland Chinese and the Hong Kong immigration officers laugh ... and that's not easy to do; border officials across the globe are trained to maintain a poker face.
Their reactions came from my passport photo, taken in March 2002, when I was still a big boy. I weighed 265 pounds, wore a full goatee and had a shaved head. I also wore no glasses.
These days I'm 200 pounds and trim. I've regrown my lid, shaved off the goatee and I wore my glasses.
In short, I look different.
They looked at the passport, then at me.
At the passport. At me.
Passport. Me.
They snorted, chuckled and tossed it back under the wicket.
Before I travel anywhere else, I must get my passport updated.
