Self Serving

The triads are sneaky; since Customs began cracking down on illegal software shops, triads have come up with a new way to operate: the self-serve system.

After finding a space to rent, usually in a computer mall or shopping plaza, they load the shelves with discs, post sign-boards with prices, and then set up an honesty box, where people drop cash.

Gang members leave the place unattended, or so it would appear; they loiter to ensure no one takes goods without paying or tries to run off with the cash, which is funny when you think about it.

Should Customs officers come to shut the place down, the bad guys disappear.

And start up again somewhere else.
