Happy Birthday, dear BWG
Happy Birthday to you!
No, it's not my birthday. It's the site's birthday. October 1 marks the fifth year of the day BWG was born and my fifth anniversary of living in Hong Kong.
Five and five. Five by five.
That it also falls on China's National Day holiday is fitting. I like to pretend the fireworks over Victoria Harbour are for me.
I never dreamed BWG would grow so popular, closing in on two million visitors, with traffic from all over the world. What keeps me going is knowing people enjoy learning about the Hong Kong they'll never see in the travel brochures or news. I have much to share, and I'll continue. I've had many adventures this past half-decade, but I haven't scratched the surface.
People often ask when I might return to Canada. I don't know if I will. I love Hong Kong and I love my life. I've changed for the better having lived here. This is home.
The past five years have been darned good; here's hoping the next five years will be great.
God knows what mischief I'll get into now that I can tie my own shoes.
