Pink Poodles

If you notice a few pink poodles on Hong Kong streets, there's a good reason.

It is a fad driven by a Japanese cartoon character, Afro Ken, who sports a wacky rainbow-coloured hairstyle.

Now thanks to the local distributor of pet hair dye, Vetapet, pet owners can dye their dogs a variety of colours - bright pink, green, orange, red, blue, yellow - for less than $500.

Vetapet owner Poi Chan explains: "It is a fun way to decorate your pet. People think it is cute." The colouring will work as long as the dog has light hair, but longer hair gets the best results. And when asked how long the colour takes to come out, Mr Chan replied: "It doesn't, it has to grow out!"

It's only a matter of time until Hong Kong's taai taais figure out a way to use the colours so their dogs will match their designer handbags.
