Sieg Heil!

Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil! Right in der Fuhrer's face!

From the What-the-Hell-were-they-thinking? department comes this marketing atrocity:

View large image All 14 Izzue stores are festooned with Nazi regalia, to promote a "German" theme for the summer season. They're also selling clothing with Nazi symbols.

Both the Israeli and German consulates have received dozens of complaints, and the Israeli consulate is in full-on attack mode:

Most of the comments made called for decisive action. People were furious, hurt and shocked that such a thing could happen. It is unbearable to think that anyone can design a marketing campaign that desecrates the deaths of millions of people. We will not sit by and let this happen.

The German Consul-General added:

The [Nazi] symbol reflects a concept - contempt for humanity. It should be outlawed.

Meanwhile, Westerners have been chewing out store managers, including one woman who was so outraged she said she was going to stand outside the shop to prevent people from entering.

I've pointed out some people in Hong Kong have no concept of how offensive the Nazi symbol is to Western eyes. Granted, it is a perversion of the original swastika used in Buddhism and many other religions, but that doesn't excuse its use to sell anything. One manager revealed the depths of her cluelessness when she said "the symbols did not mean anything and they were just used to sell clothes."

How would they feel if the Rising Sun flag were resurrected and plastered all over the city?
