Overrun
I walked into Park 'N Shop in Causeway Bay, to pick up a few Chinese buns before Tai Chi practice.
Ordinarily a Sunday morning isn't that busy, but today was chaos redefined. Taking their cue from banks, which have eight windows but only four tellers, the grocery store had only three of its many check-out lanes open. The place had been overrun with Filipinas and Indonesians. You haven't lived until you've been surrounded by dozens of exuberant women jabbering away in Tagalog and Bahasa Indonesian.
The queues were twenty people deep, and more people were pouring into the store by the moment. I darted into the express lane before the line snaked around the corner and backed up into the produce section. I was glad to get through the throng and out of the store with my sanity intact.
Who needs flash mobs when Hong Kong has domestic helpers?
