To Sleep: Perchance to Dream
On a hot summer day, an elderly newspaper vendor naps, shaded from the blistering sun by the canopy covering his rickety, decrepit Nathan Road booth.
The old man is still, not stirring, oblivious to the crushing din of traffic jockeying for position through the Yau Ma Tei district.
Is business slow, or is a siesta a normal part of his day? I haven't the heart to wake him to inquire. Instead I step back, admiring his tranquility in spite of the maelstrom. I photograph his lined and weary face, not knowing what sort of man he is and not caring. It is the curiosity which fascinates.
I move on, wondering which secret dream has the power to draw him into its murky depths, and away from the living, breathing city.
