The Twins Effect

If you've never been in Hong Kong then you may not be aware of Twins.

Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi, obviously unrelated, are former models that have been turned into Cantopop superstars, thanks to the huge machinery of Hong Kong's entertainment industry.

Twins are cute, adorable and effervescent. Their faces have been plastered all over Hong Kong in advertisements too numerous to count, they've done umpteen music videos, and following the path laid down for all Cantopop stars, have acted in several Hong Kong-made films.

If you can call it acting.

Their latest bit of tripe, soon to hit the silver screen, is called The Twins Effect.

View large imageIt's about two schoolgirls trained in kung fu that are vampire slayers. The previews I've seen are mind-numbingly awful. The vampires, with their dime-store Hallowe'en plastic teeth, don't look scary, and their dialogue is of the "I-vant-to-suck-your-bluhd" type in cheesy Eurotrash accents. As for Twins, they have about as much credibility as kung fu masters as I have being Chinese. Vampire slayers? Please.

This film will be a massive hit. Teenagers will eat it up, along with a sizeable number of adults, which is frightening.

I won't waste my money on The Twins Effect. They already have an effect on me.

I'd call it nausea.
