As Dead As Elvis
It's not every day I see a Chinese man sporting huge mutton-chop sideburns.
For a brief moment, I felt as though I'd stepped back in time 100 years. Had that been the case, the man would have looked different. Most of his head would have been shaved, and a long plait would have run down his back: the traditional Manchu style of the Qing Dynasty.
With my shaved head, I could grow a plait, but it would take a long time and be blond. I doubt Hong Kongers would be inspired to revert to an antiquated hairstyle, just as I'm not about to grow mutton-chop sideburns.
Even Elvis couldn't bring them back.
