SARS: Extreme Paranoia

On the bus I spotted a man wearing a half-face, single-filter respirator (like a gas mask but without the top half).

That's taking paranoia to extreme levels. SARS is under control in Hong Kong; the likelihood of contracting the disease while out in public is about the same as being hit by lightning inside a lift.

He looked as though he were about to paint someone's car, or spray herbicides or industrial-stength insect control chemicals. It would have been fun to cough on him to see how he'd react, but I didn't.

I'm not that mean.
