Farewell Leslie Cheung

Hong Kongers are in shock after the suicide of Leslie Cheung (張國榮), one of the most popular actors and singers in Asia.

He jumped from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central. He was 46.

Westerners may know him best from his 1993 film, Farewell My Concubine.

Messages on his fan web site are best summed up by this one, written by a local fan:

I still cannot believe that you already died.

There are so many things happen in these days ... War ... virus . . and your dead. Your dead news already covered everything. I forget how serious of the virus now. My mind fulls of your songs, movies and everything about you.

It is biggest shock for me and many people. We cannot forget you. I hope that you didn't feel regret of what you did. Cannot return again. However, I appreciate for all of your efforts to give us so much good songs and movies. Thanks. Really hope that nobody follows your way of ending the unvalueable life. We really miss you.

He was one of my wife's favourites when she was growing up.

I hope she doesn't take it too hard.
