Sars: Designer Mask Hoax
An e-mail hoax about the SARS outbreak is making the rounds.
It claims designer fashion houses Louis Vuitton and Gucci are selling numbered, limited-edition face masks to ultra-brand-conscious Hong Kong socialites.
The e-mail states the Louis Vuitton mask is made of "super-soft Connolly leather with a monogrammed sterling silver clasp, and retails at $1,800. This is bogus. Gucci has denied it intends to release a "black mask incorporating the Gucci buckle".
Hoax it may be, but that doesn't mean there's a grain of truth behind it. Not truth about the mask ... truth about Hong Kong consumers.
