Movin' On Up
Well we're movin' on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin' on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.
That's right, boys and girls. We're leaving this festering cesspool behind.
Goodbye rats. Goodbye cockroaches. Goodbye evil, demon-possessed toilet.
We're packing up and heading back to the Eastern New Territories. We once lived in a shoebox in Sha Tin, but this time we've found a nice flat in Ma On Shan, or Saddle Hill.
The 31st-floor flat is in good condition, the interior is clean and it's a lot bigger than our current breadbox. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and out of the master bedroom we have a pretty view of a lush green mountain.
The flat even comes with a leather sofa and some useful pieces of furniture. And best of all, the toilets work fine. We won't be plagued with sewage backups: not that high off the ground.
The building complex is four years old, the management and maintenance looks top-notch, and security is excellent.
We met our new landlords and they seem like nice people. They were accommodating and I expect we won't have any difficulties with them.
Over the next two weeks I'll do most of the legwork: mail forwarding, telephone and broadband Internet installation, banking, dealing with the movers and packing, packing, packing. I hate moving, but I love having moved when greater comfort is the result. After the nightmares we've endured during the past four weeks, by God, we deserve a leg up.
Thank you, God.
Well we're movin' on up,
To the east side.
