You're So Vain
I bet you think this post is about you, don't you?
A Chinese University study suggests the modern Hong Kong woman is vain.
The study revealed she is socially conscious, concerned about the environment and politically aware. She'll spend more for environmentally friendly products and believes more women should be involved in politics.
She spends up to 30% of her income on clothing, cosmetics and weight-loss products. She's very competitive; she tries to trump her friends and colleagues in her appearance. She wears designer handbags, shoes and mobile phones that have the product name or logo visible on the outside. She wants people to know she can afford that Prada handbag and that Rolex watch.
The modern Hong Kong woman respects traditional family values. Having children is considered the greatest accomplishment of her life. She feels continuing her husband's bloodline is necessary and that he is the head of the household. Looking after the family is her top priority.
It's an interesting juxtapostion.
The modern Hong Kong woman may emulate her mother, but she doesn't have to look like her.
