Predictable Bus Fire
The engine of a Kowloon Motor Bus Company (KMB) double-decker bus overheated and burst into flame inside the Eastern Harbour Tunnel during morning rush hour.
Everyone got off the bus and the ensuing traffic jam lasted more than two hours.
The last time a KMB bus caught fire was June 2000, inside the Shing Mun Tunnel. In that incident, all passengers escaped unharmed.
In June 1998, 100 passengers evacuated their KMB bus after it caught fire near the exit of the Shing Mun Tunnel.
In December 1996, a KMB bus burst into flame inside Lion Rock Tunnel, but that one was empty.
If you ride a KMB bus, chances are it will catch fire inside a tunnel about every 2 - 2.5 years.
Remember that if you take the bus in 2004-05.
