Dinneelan' Is Da Bomb

To date, 183 assorted bombs and artillery shells dropped into the ocean by the British military after WWII have been dredged from the East Lamma Channel as the Mouse House project continues at Penny's Bay on Lantau Island.

Each time a bomb is found, the bomb squad has to be called in to remove it or detonate it on the spot. Most of the weapons found were rusted or fuseless and in no danger of exploding.

Disney has hired a US-based specialist to search for bombs with a metal detector, but some of the workers on the Disneyland project are concerned about their safety. Most of the bombs are buried in mud so deep the chance of a life-threatening explosion is remote, but the construction site has posted notices to educate workers on what to do if they find anything suspicious.

By the time the Penny's Bay reclamation is complete, there won't be much ordnance left in the waters of the East Lamma Channel, and it won't be a threat to the patrons of the park.

Dinneelan' Hong Kong opens in 2006.
