Bio-Hazard

I approached the zebra crossing near the front of the Sogo Department store and waited for the lights to change.

Nearby, a man wearing distressed and ill-fitting grey-white coveralls stood behind a large residential green garbage bin: the type with a lid, rubber wheels at the back and handles at the top, so it could be tipped and rolled. He was surrounded by people waiting to cross.

Someone had taped a piece of A4-sized paper to the front of the bin and had written on it with a black felt-tipped marker: Caution: Chemical or BioHazard Waste. The lid wasn't down and was twisted to the point where it could no longer be closed. I saw the inner lining of the brown plastic garbage bag inside. I didn't want to know what was inside that bin.

The garbage handler stood there, nonchalantly leaning on it.

I moved away.

And upwind.
