Veni, Vidi, Vincci

We came, we saw, we bought shoes.

This was the scene at a shop called Vincci in the Suria KLCC shopping mall, part of Malaysia's Petronas Towers complex.

View large image It's like this every time we go there. I was afraid to walk in, as were most of the terrified guys loitering about the store front, waiting for their wives or girlfriends as they tried on and bought shoes like sharks in a feeding frenzy.

Like a brave soldier I ventured into the shop, to prevent my wife from making horrible fashion mistakes. She has a good sense of taste in clothing and footwear, but every now and then ... damn.

I was surrounded by tiny women trying on what I like to call back-breakers: ridiculous shoes with 3-inch plus heels, many open-toed and begging for the chance to break an ankle. Mabel is smart enough to avoid those shoes like a diaper pail.

The store was the definition of the word zoo, but the ladies were well-behaved. No disputes or fistfights broke out, and we escaped unscathed; that is to say with but one pair of shoes in a shopping bag.

It's times like this I'm glad I'm male.
