VCD Shop

This is a typical VCD/DVD shop in Hong Kong.

View large image In every neighbourhood you can find shops like this. While DVDs are taking over, many people still buy video CD, or VCD, as they're less expensive and can be played on a computer. The quality is lower than DVD, but for most films it doesn't matter.

When I make the move to DVD, I'll buy titles demanding DVD performance or offering extra features. The average I pay for a legitimate film on VCD is $29 (about US $3.70).

I never buy pirated copies. Most times they're made by someone with a video camera inside a theatre. I've seen pirated films; they suck in video and sound quality, and the price difference isn't worth it.

And VHS? Rare.

That's old school, baby.
