Trudge, Trudge, Trudge
There's nothing more annoying when practicing Tai Chi than to have someone about making a noticeable racket, or doing something distracting such as getting too close.
Such was the case as I practiced in Victoria Park. In the middle of my form, a middle-aged Chinese man began trudging back and forth through the area, barely lifting his feet and scraping the heels of his shoes along the paving stones.
When I was back, he trudged in front. When I was forward, he trudged behind. He had a nice sunny day and a beautiful, empty park to move about in, yet he took his exercise next to me.
The man drove me crazy. I tried to focus, but each time I thought about the next movement, the sound of the man's shoes punched through my concentration: Grasp the Peacock's Tail (trudge trudge trudge) ... White Crane Lifts Wings (trudge trudge trudge) ... Repel Monkey (trudge trudge trudge) ...
Next time I'll wear earplugs.
