Mouth Breathers
A professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong says the reason Hong Kongers get sick more often is they talk too much and they're too loud.
He feels that noise levels force people to shout, which in turn traumatises the throat. People who talk all the time increase their chances of catching the flu because their mouths are open. Because of stress, people spend more time socialising and less time getting enough rest. Add air pollution to the mix, and it means a lot of people get sick and spread it around.
That's his theory.
I don't buy it over more obvious reasons, such as:
· people being packed liked sardines on the MTR during peak hours;
· people coughing and sneezing without covering their mouths;
· gratuitous nose-picking;
· people who don't wash their hands after using the washroom.
With so many ways to catch the flu, not being a blabbermouth isn't of much help.
