Oh Suzie!

On the way to The Temple, a small Indian restaurant a stone's throw from the Wan Chai MTR station on Lockhart Road, we walked through the Suzie Wong area of the old Wan Chai waterfront.

Long gone is the raunchy red-light district of the 50s and 60s. The street is now lined with sleazy nightclubs, girlie-bars and saunas, festooned in gaudy neon with eye-catching names such as: Club Bunny, Popeye, Popeye II, Club Venus, Club Romance, Cockeye, Panda Bar, and Hawaii Nightclub.

These were staffed by unattractive people loitering on the sidewalk to invite men into their fine establishments for an evening's entertainment and something extra with the unfortunate women inside. Blech!

Next time we'll take a taxi.
